Hardik Pandya perhaps took the best catch of the evening during the electric clash between Indian and Pakistan. Pakistan were put into bat and were batting sluggishly with the openers Sharjeel Khan and Ahmed Shehzad putting up a cautious 38 runs stand for the first wicket. The duo had successfully managed to keep the Indian bowlers quite at the start of the innings. However, the partnership finally was brought to an end after Hardik Pandya grabbed a breathtaking catch at the boundary ropes.

Sharjeel mistimed an attempted big hit off Suresh Raina’s bowling. The ball went quite high in the air and seemed to be landing in no man’s land. But, the young Hardik Pandya sprinted to his best and managed to reach under the ball just in time. He puts in a dive in order to get hold of the ball and completes the catch successfully.

But, then he slams himself on the ground very hard on his chest. The momentum makes his body roll over from behind awkwardly. He looked visibly dazed and had to be taken off the field. This effort brought him high praises and received admiration from the fielding guru Jonty Rhodes himself.

His departure brought skipper Shahid Afridi in the middle. Afridi had just struck form in the World T20 Super 10 stage openers which Pakistan played against Bangladesh. However, nor he or neither Ahmed Shehzad were able to get runs freely. The pitch was turning square and Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja were proving tough to deal with.

Afridi, in particular, was running out of scoring option. He wasn’t able to connect the ball cleanly and was getting desperate. This desperation saw him play a false stroke in the 12th over of the match and lost his wicket. Shoaib Malik and Umar Akmal then got some invaluable runs at the end as Pakistan managed to post 118/5 in 20 overs
