The India team made the country proud by reaching the final of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup with a 97-run win over Sri Lanka. The victory also extends the unbeaten streak of the U19 side to 15 matches.
Having been put into bat first, the Indians lost skipper Ishan Kishan and Rishabh Pant early on in the innings. However, Anmolpreet Singh and Sarfaraz Ahmed led the revival with knocks of 72 and 59 respectively. Sarfaraz made history, scoring his fourth half-century of the tournament. Washington Sundar (43) and Armaan Jaffer (29) too chipped in as the Indians looked set to finish on a high. Mayank Dagar’s cameo towards the end of the innings saw him slam 3 massive sixes as the Indians finished on a healthy 267/9 in their 50 overs.
In reply, Avesh Khan and Khaleel Ahmed rocked the Sri Lankan batting early on, removing openers Bandara and Fernando. Rahul Bhatam picked up the important wicket of skipper Charith Asalanka. Kamindu Mendis and Shammu Ashan led a brief but definitive resistance, scoring 39 and 32 respectively. Left-arm spinner Mayank Dagar finally dismissed the dangerous Mendis, exposing the Sri Lankan tail.
The Lankan tail failed to wag as their innings eventually folded up at 170, thus giving India a massive 97-run win. The Indians will face the winner of the second semi-final between Pakistan and the West Indies. The final will be played at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Dhaka on the 14th of February.
Tweets flew in from all over, congratulating the Indian colts for entering the final. Here are the best Tweets or ‘Twitter Reaction’ following the Indian win.
