West Indies slammed brakes on India’s World T20 journey after they beat the hosts by 7 wickets set up a title clash with England on Sunday.
India were put to bat first by the Calypso Kings and began well wit Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane putting up a 62 run opening wicket stand. However, Sharma was made to depart soon. Sharma’s dismissal brought in India’s most reliable batsman Virat Kohli at the crease.
The Delhi lad continued his extraordinary form and began scoring run with ease. The run rate began to creep upwards as he pierced through the field to hit boundaries one after another.
The vice-captain reached his fifty in 33 balls in the 16th over of the match. This was his 16 T20I fifty and the third in the tournament.
Kohli became more aggressive as the death overs arrived. He along with Dhoni took the attack and mustered 65 runs off the last five overs. As usual, he was lightning quick between the wicket and with MS Dhoni converted many singles into doubles, putting a lot of pressure on the West Indies fielders.
The final overs saw a blaze of boundaries from the bat of Virat and he eventually finished with 89 runs off just 47 balls. His batting effort saw the team total balloon to 192/2 after 20 overs.
It appeared that Virat has yet again set the stage for a famous victory. But, unluckily, that was not supposed to happen as the West Indies chased down the target pretty easily in the end with the help of Lendl Simmons amazing knock.
"Not the first time I have seen Virat Kohli bat like that. I have seen him evolve as a player. He has kept improving his game," – MS Dhoni
