Spectacular knocks from veterans Younis Khan (127) and Misbah-ul-Haq (90*) spurred Pakistan to 304 for 4 at stumps on Day 1 of the second Test against West Indies at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Friday (October 21). West Indies began well on a flat deck and initially struck two major setbacks by dismissing opener Azhar Ali and Sami Islam, both the star performers in the historic first test, for cheap scores. But, Younis Khan, who returned after recovering from dengue and skipper Misbah-ul-Haq deflated the Windies bowling attack and frustrated them for the whole day.

Shannon Gabriel and Miguel Cummins looked inspired and bowled brilliantly to the openers. Success came quickly for the Windies bowlers in the first session. Azhar Ali, the triple centurion in the last game, was cleaned up by Gabriel in the 5th over. Sami Islam also could do anything special and was dismissed by Devendra Bishoo. But Pakistan innings found stability after No.3 Asad Shafiq (68) combined with Younis Khan and forged a 87 run stand for the 3rd wicket.

After the departure of Shafiq in the 40th over, Misbah walked in and further propelled the Pakistan total. The two veterans together knitted a 175 runs partnership put their team in a very strong position. Younis Khan, unfortunately, could not walk to the pavilion unbeaten and was very unlucky to lose his wicket off the very last ball of the day in the 84th over.

After witnessing Younis’s masterclass, fans will be now waiting eagerly for their skipper to resume batting tomorrow and reach the triple figure mark. Twitter was obviously celebrating the wonderful knocks from the Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq.
