India ended the day one of the 4th Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi at the score of 231 for 7, their highest total of the series. The scorecard would have been worse had Ajinkya Rahane not played the best innings of the series so far. He was the only Indian batsman who was good enough to battle through the tough periods and cash in later on. India was 139 for 6 when Rahane put on a partnership of 92 runs with Ravindra Jadeja and saved them from a disappointment. Later, he teamed up with R. Ashwin took the innings forward and helped India reached a respectable total.
Rahane came in to bat at the overnight score of 89* and reached his maiden century in India in his seventh innings and his fifth Test hundred overall.
The joyful moment for Rahane came in the 89th over when he hit a wonderful straight drive for a boundary. He raised his arms in celebration and looked up at the skies before waving his bat to the applauding fans at the ground.
This knock will certainly make the critics take a break from down grading him. Rahane was seen struggling in home conditions after having succeeded in every away series he played for India. It was a challenge for him to bat at number five when the ball become rough and began turning even more. He finally broke the ‘jinx’ and came up strong when India needed him the most. Thanks to this outstanding innings which got him to his first ton at home, Rahane is now the highest individual scorer of the series.
