Things weren’t quite going Team India’s way in the middle phase of the innings as the Sri Lankan batsmen put up a solid partnership 159-run partnership for the second wicket. After Niroshan Dickwella got out early Danushka Gunathilaka and Kusal Mendis enjoyed batting on the Kennington Oval wicket. The ball was coming onto the bat nicely and flying off to the boundary as well.

All the Indian bowlers failed to get a wicket, he tried the three pacers, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja as well as part-time off-spinner Kedar Jadhav but the Lankans were committed to not give in. As the 7th bowler in the inning, he skipper brought himself on attempting to break the partnership. Though he wasn’t able to do it with the ball his over did bring the team a breakthrough.

Gunathilaka hit the ball towards square leg and decided to challenge the fielder at the ropes. It was Umesh Yadav who is known for his rocket arm and he aimed at the right end. MS Dhoni had judged that the batsman was quite far and would take time to get in. The throw wasn’t spot on and Dhoni had to collect the ball and get the bails off really quick.

There is nobody in business who can do it faster than the Indian wicketkeeper. Gunathilaka also knew he is in trouble and thus attempted an aerial dive to cover the ground up faster. He was in the air, stretched his bat as far as he could and got it inside the line but before he even entered the frame the led lights were glowing.

Dhoni was confident they had the man, the batsman knew he was short as the third umpire replayed it in slow motion the Indian fans in London erupted in celebration as the Indian players patted MSD for his commendable work behind the wickets.

Gunathilaka was batting on 76 and that wicket also brought India another one as Mendis was soon run out on 89.
