Having turned into a supreme season so far, India found themselves a slightly off-key, as Australian spinner Steve O’Keffe turned out to be the chief architect in what will go down as a major collapse in the history of Indian cricket. The hosts lost their seven wickets for mere 11 runs and O’Keffe ended with figures of 6/35.
Australia were earlier bowled out for 260, as they added only four runs to their overnight score. Ravichandran Ashwin wrapped up Mitchell Starc, who batted with an intent, scoring 61 runs. For India, only KL Rahul come out well with the bat. The opener scored 64 runs, that included 10 boundaries and a six. Apart from Rahul, only Murali Vijay and Ajinkya Rahane could manage double figures, as the entire pack including the skipper Virat Kohli failed to fire with the bat. Kohli had a rare off-day, as he was dismissed for a duck by Starc.
The left-arm pacer finished with two wickets, while Josh Hazelwood and Nathan Lyon bagged one wicket each. India were floored in just 40 overs as the visitors took 155 runs lead before coming into bat in the second innings. Captain Steven Smith remained not out at 59 along with all-rounder Mitch Marsh, who scored 21 runs before the end of day’s play. Australia finished the day on 143/4, and they lead by 298 runs. Indian spinner Ravi Ashwin bagged three wickets, and also went past former legendary all-rounder Kapil Dev, for the most Test wickets in a home season. Ashwin has so far scalped 67 wickets from 10 Test matches.
Both the Australian openers- David Warner and Shaun Marsh failed to add big numbers under their belt. Ashwin trapped both the opener’s pad, as the latter went for a duck. Apart from Ashwin, Jayant Yadav was successful with the ball. Yadav got the wicket of Matt Renshaw, who scored a 50-ball 31 runs.

7 for 11 followed by 4 dropped catches and 2 botched reviews. Easily the worst day under Kohli's captaincy. #IndvAus

This was, in fact, Kohli's first duck after 104 consecutive innings in International cricket. Last was in Cardiff ODI of 2014. #IndvAus
