The Chinnaswamy stadium has been a lucky hunting ground for Australia who have won 2 Tests here out of 4. On a high note after a sensational victory at Pune, the visitors continued to topple India with spin. Earlier in the day, it was Captain Virat Kohli who won the toss as India elected to bat first. Abhinav Mukund came in place of injured Murali Vijay while batsman Karun Nair came in for allrounder Jayant Yadav. The Australian team retained their winning XI from the last game.

India didn’t begin well as opener Abhinav Mukund who played his first match in 5 years was dismissed for a duck. KL Rahul alongside Cheteshwar Pujara tried to show some keenness with a 61 run partnership for the second wicket. Just when it seemed, India had managed to go to lunch without any further hiccups, they lost Pujara on the last ball of the first session.

Virat Kohli failed to get going as he was trapped by Nathan Lyon. He also wasted a review in the process. Ajinkya Rahane continued his struggle against spin as he failed to pick Lyon. He tried to step out but ended up going so ahead that he was stumped in spite of a fumble by wicket keeper Mathew Wade.

Karun Nair who played his first game since the triple century look in comfort. While Nair got a start, he failed to convert it into a big one as a result of another stumping. While wickets kept falling from one end, KL Rahul batted splendidly to keep India at bay for a good total.

Once the tail was exposed, Nathan Lyon wreck havoc for the Indian batsmen. The likes of Ashwin, Jadeja failed to create any sort of impact with the bat. KL Rahul missed out on a well deserving century as he scored 90 runs in his 205 balls stay at the crease.

The hosts were bundled for 189 as they failed to reach 200 for the third consecutive time in the series. Nathan Lyon went on to pick best figures by an overseas bowler in India as he bagged 8 wickets conceding just 50 runs.

Australia came our to bat an hour before the end of the day. David Warner and Matt Renshaw did well to make sure there wasn’t any damage for Australia. Rahane dropped a tough chance as he dropped Warner at gully. The Baggy Greens were well placed with 40/0 at stumps on Day 1.

Twitter applauded Nathan Lyon’s spectacular spell with the ball. There was a sense of dissatisfaction among Twitterati with the Indian batsmen expressed themselves on the field. Here are some of the Twitter reactions that took place during the course of the game:
