Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja scored half-centuries to crush an inspiring West Indies fightback, pushing Australia’s lead to an imposing 459 runs at the close of day three of the second Test on Monday. Following his first innings resistance, Bravo began with similar intent to frustrate Australia on the fourth day, and with Chandrika also obstinate, the Australians were unable to go on to further exploit Lyon’s initial break.
Fifteen minutes before lunch, Pattinson thought he had Chandrika LBW, and after Marais Erasmus declined the appeal, the Australians shaped to review the decision. Holder and Ramdin then combined for a stand of 103 that looked to be taking the Test into the final day. However Marsh’s persistence was to be rewarded with an edge from Ramdin, and the end followed swiftly.
Australia deservingly celebrated a fine show, but they had at least been made to sweat out for it. Having fought hard over the final two days of the Boxing Day Test at the MCG, the West Indies lost their final four wickets for 32 in 10 overs, allowing Steven Smith’s team to enjoy success inside four days after they declared before play began to set Jason Holder’s men a target of 460.
Australia now have an unbeatable lead of 2-0, going into the final Test match at Sydney starting next year. Let’s check out how the world of twitter reacted to another Australian victory.
