Pakistan batting has been under the cosh for quite some time, irrespective of the format. The national team has looked at bay and despite chopping and changing, the winning combination is yet to be found. Amidst the abject state of their batting, one man has cemented his place in the side- Babar Azam, whose position in the Pakistan team can’t be questioned by any means.

Pakistan’s batters have been caught napping in the ongoing Test series versus Australia. It hasn’t perturbed Babar, who has smothered the menacing Aussie attack without much fuss. In the first innings of the opening Test at The Gabba in Brisbane, he got out cheaply. However, Babar is not someone, to remain bogged down for long. In the same match, he hit back with a century.

Though his ton couldn’t save Pakistan from an innings defeat, it garnered him a lot of praises. It was only Babar’s second Test ton. The Young Turk has now wielded the willow to good effect in the Day-Night Test at the Adelaide Oval. Unlike the Brisbane Test where he batted at five, Babar was promoted one place up to fourth after several calls of his promotion, being their best batter.

Babar Azam puts on a show in Adelaide

He came in after pacer Pat Cummins pinned opposition skipper Azhar Ali in the 12th over. Under the lights, Mitchell Starc wreaked havoc, nipping out Asad Shafiq, Iftikhar Ahmed and Mohammad Rizwan in pretty quick succession. Babar didn’t drop the gun and held one end up, remaining unbeaten on 43 with Yasir Shah as his partner. On the second day, he got to his fifty off 71 balls.

Babar was looking good for back-to-back tons, but luck eluded him and he was dismissed on 97. He got an outside edge on a drive, giving Starc his fifth scalp. Prior to that, he shared a 105-run stand with Shah, who went on to score his maiden Test fifty. Babar would be dejected after missing out on the ton. However, his fans are delighted that the right-hander held his nerve in crisis.

Here is how Twitter lauded Babar for the knock
