The warm-up games are the best opportunity to test the bench strength of a team, and that is exactly what both the teams wanted to do when Bangladesh faced India in the warm-up game at the Kennington Oval. Batting first Team India made a massive total, thanks to the knock from the middle-order batsman Dinesh Karthik alongside the opener Shikhar Dhawan.

While the Dhawan got out after his fifty, DK went off the field retired after scoring 94, a practice followed in the warm-up games. Ravindra Jadeja too got the runs required for a late surge, but it was Hardik Pandya who stole the show with the bat. The all-rounder got India over 300 at the Kennington Oval with 80 runs off just 54 balls, a knock which comprised of six boundaries and four hits over the boundary. The Indian team ended the first innings with a total of 324 for the loss of seven wickets in their 50 overs.

Umesh and Bhuvi breath fire

In reply, the Bangladesh openers got off to a dismal start with Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav making them dance to their tunes. Bangladeshi opener Soumya Sarkar was the first one to be dismissed, after failing to read the movement of the delivery which forced an outside edge for a simple catch to the keeper Dinesh Karthik.

Sabir Rahman just like Soumya failed to read the line and missed the ball altogether in the very same over. It seemed that nothing could get worse for the Tigers’, but there was always a feeling that more was about to come.

Bhuvneshwar followed it with the wicket of Imrul Kayes caught by Yadav. It was the right-arm of Kumar which dismissed the star player Shakib Al Hasan who was also leading the team in this game before he got the wicket of Mahmudullah in the very next delivery. Mossadek Hossain followed suit after a ripper of a delivery from Umesh Yadav.

A brief partnership between Mushfiqur Rahman and Mehdi Hasan had lifted the spirits of the Bangladeshi dressing room before the former was dismissed before Mohammed Shami struck in his very first over of the innings. Ravichandran Ashwin and Pandya also got a wicket each as the Bangladeshi innings folded for just 84 runs.
