The third-place play-off between Maratha Arabians and Bengal Tigers took place before the mega final in Sharjah on a super Sunday in the ongoing T10 League. Both the teams, with no hopes of winning the trophy, gave a chance to their benched players in this nothing to lose encounter. The Tigers, in the end, had enough power to chase down 122 runs in the last over with five balls to spare.

After losing the toss, the Arabians got off to the worst possible start with their opener Kamran Akmal castled by Ali Khan. However, Hazratullah Zazai and Adam Lyth got stuck into the opposition bowling as they went bonkers with every other delivery. Lyth, playing after a long time, didn’t look rusty at all and slammed a 22-ball half-century. At the other end, Zazai also brought his hitting skills to the fore and raced his way to 39 off 15 balls. But both of them were dismissed in the space of eight balls.

At 91/3 after seven overs, the Arabians had a chance to post a score around 140. But some good death overs from the Tigers made sure that the batsmen never got quick runs. In the end, they could only add 30 runs and ended up with 121 runs for the loss of six wickets.

Rutherford aces yet another chase

The Bengal Tigers gave a chance to an exciting UAE batsman Mohammad Usman who batted with utmost authority even as Sunil Narine struggled his way through to 15. But once Sherfane Rutherford arrived in the middle, there was no looking back for the Tigers. Usman smashed 28 off just nine balls and even Mohammad Nabi couldn’t add much to the total.

But Rutherford had nothing to do with what was happening at the other end. He just continued to belt whichever bowler came his way and scored 46 runs off just 21 cherries with six sixes and a solitary four. Unfortunately, the Caribbean juggernaut couldn’t stay until the end and was run-out with 13 runs still needed. But he had done his job and eventually, the Tigers gunned down the target to seal the third place.
