The Brisbane Heat have managed to conquer the Thunder’s home game in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). The match which was played at the Showground stadium in Sydney was affected by the rain and the downpour never stopped but enough overs were bowled for the outcome and the Heat were the better team until then. The home side though will feel hard done as they would’ve hoped to recover from a poor start and chase down the steep total.
After being invited to bat first, Brendon McCullum and Max Bryant finally fired together. The duo got the team off to a blistering start as the former got going for the first time this season. His shot-making was a pleasure to watch to the fans as they were left awestruck with the hitting on display. The opening stand of the Heat added 76 runs together in less than eight overs.
Just when Bryant was looking to take the game away from the Thunder, Jono Cook struck to castle him. But Chris Lynn’s arrival only worsened the things for the home team as he blunted the leather brutally. He and McCullum added 65 more runs to blow the opposition. Both of them reached their respective half-century as the 200-run mark looked set to be breached.
Heat implode
However, as they do always, Brisbane Heat clicked the self-implode button as they were reduced to 166/8 from 141/1 in the space of five overs. The collapse saw them scoring only 186 runs in 20 overs with the spinners saving the day for the Thunder albeit somehow.
The chase was not going to be easy by any means and things got even tougher for the hosts as they lost Jos Buttler early. Even Callum Ferguson was dismissed for 16 and when the skipper Shane Watson and Joe Root were looking to rebuild, the heavens opened up to spoil their plans. The play was stopped after 5.3 overs when the score read 34/2 and the visitors were ahead by 15 runs at the same time by the DLS method.
Heat registered their second win of the season and the Thunder slumped to their fourth defeat of the season and are now at the sixth position in the points table.

Think the Heat vs the Thunder being called off due to rain just about sums up #BBL08. Looked as though we finally might have an entertaining chase on our hands!

So unlucky for @ThunderBBL that play extended three balls past the five over mark but @HeatBBL deserved the win based on the efforts of the Bash Brothers plus Max. #BBL08

If Watson didn’t hit that ball out of the stadium there’s a chance Thunder could have genuinely won and that just shows how crazy the DLS is #BBL08

Thunder fans have been very quiet in the last week and a half or so.
What's that … four losses in the last five matches?
Only win in that time was by a run to the Scorchers who are currently last 😂
But nah, the Sixers are rubbish.#BBL08 #smashemsixers
