Chittagong Vikings played their first match after a six-day break, but they didn’t look rusty and beat Khulna Titans by 26 runs at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium. The encounter was also a witness to the maiden 200 plus score in this edition’s Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). While Mushfiqur Rahim’s Vikings moved to the second position of the table, Khulna lost their sixth match in this season.

Vikings’ batsmen dominate

The Titans decided to bowl on what turned out to be a belter of a wicket and their decision backfired as Chittagong racked up a mammoth 214 for four in 20 overs. Left-arm seamer Shoriful Islam dismissed Cameron Delport early, but Mohammad Shahzad flung his willow, scored 33 with three fours and as many sixes and took his team to 56 in the powerplay. Left-arm spinner Taijul Islam got rid of the batter.

In the next 14 overs, Chittagong Vikings went hammer and tongs and amassed 158 runs. Yasir Ali and Mushfiqur took the bowling by the scruff of its neck to add 83 runs together in 50 balls. Rahim ended up scoring 52 from 33 balls before falling prey to David Wiese, who also dismissed Yasir for 54. Dasun Shanaka and Najibullah Zadran gave the finishing kick to the innings with knocks of 42 and 16 runs respectively.

Mahmudullah plays a lone hand

Chasing a mammoth score, the Titans lost Paul Stirling for a duck to Abu Jayed. Junaid Siddique and Al-Amin couldn’t deliver as well. Thereafter, Brendan Taylor and Mahmudullah took charge and stitched together a stand of 68 runs to bring the Titans back in contention. Off-spinner Nayeem Hasan nipped out Taylor after the Zimbabwean scored 28 from 16. The dismissal didn’t faze Mahmudullah though.

The right-hander notched a half-century in 25 balls. Unfortunately, Cameron Delport castled him to cut short his knock. The South African picked up his second wicket in the form of Ariful Haque. David Wiese turned up with a 20-ball 40, but by then the required-rate had mounted out of the Titans’ radar. Taijul Islam also scored 22 runs to mitigate the damage, however, it wasn’t enough to trouble the Vikings.

Here is how Twitter reacted to Chittagong’s victory
