The big man had already sparkled the Bangladesh Premier League with a century in the Eliminator and when it was the big night of the final Chris Gayle had an even better plan. He got going in the third over with a boundary against Mosaddek Hossain and concluded the innings with a big hit off Shakib Al Hasan to take the team total to 206/1 in 20 overs.

We know when Gayle is at his best as he hits more sixes than boundaries. Today was one such occasion and though his first three hits were to the ropes thereafter he didn’t trouble the fielders and made life hell for the bowlers. His knock was well paced, yes he didn’t go out all guns blazing but planned his innings to ensure he batted through.

During the course of his massacre, Gayle also got to his century, the 20th hundred in Twenty20 cricket, needless to say, he is extending his own record in the format. The knock was getting bigger as he plundered one six after the other. He played just 69 balls in the innings but clobbered 18 balls over the boundary and some deep-deep into the stands of the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

With a last-ball six, he ended his innings on 146 that also witnessed him hitting five boundaries. His strike rate in this massive knock was a staggering 212. Though his partner in crime Brendon McCullum who also scored a half century faster than a run a ball it appeared to be a stroll.

Gayle hit as many as 18 massive hits in his knock and with that bettered his own record of 17 that he had acquired during the knock of 175* while playing for RCB in the IPL. Rangur Riders fans were absolutely ecstatic at this show from their team in the ultimate match of the season as they now stand a great chance of taking the cup.

Here is how Twitterati reacted to the knock:
