Twitter Reactions: Chris Morris turns the chase on its head

AB de Villiers won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first in the 4th ODI of the 5-match series and though they had early success in the form of Jason Roy’s wicket Joe Root once again proved to be a thorn too hard for the home team to get rid of as he scored his second consecutive hundred in the series. Some intelligent batting in the lower order by Chris Woakes and Adil Rashid saw England get to 262 which looked competitive considering the fact that any chase under lights is tricky.
The Protea inning started with an addition of a wicket to their scoreboard even before a run was scored as Hashim Amal got out for a duck on the last ball of Stuart Broad’s first. Every other South African batsman got starts nobody actually stayed on to convert it into something substantial. The 20s and 30s by the top order left a little too much to be achieved for the batsmen walking in later but it was Chris Morris’ day and he just turned things around with his 38-ball 62 runs knock with which he not only got to his maiden ODI half-century but also won the game for South Africa. Though he got out to an Adil Rashid googly Imran Tahir had to score just one run which he did and ran in ecstasy as South Africa won the game with a single wicket in hand.
Following the game Man of the Match ,Chris Morris said: “We have done a lot of work in the last couple of months on my batting. Thanks to all the coaches who have been throwing the balls to me. When Dave got out, we were in a bit of stifle. Then KG got out and luckily they dropped me. I thought to myself to play my game. I know the altitude helps. Me getting out was a disappointment but it was a great delivery. Before I came in, I said that I will hand over my match fee to the PinkDrive.”
Here is how Twitter Reacted to South Africa’s series leveling victory:
