Team India received a major setback when they were beaten in the series opener of the ongoing Nidahas Trophy 2018. Coming as the favorites to win the trophy, the thumping defeat certainly was not expected by the Indian camp. Hence, when they took on Bangladesh in the second match of the series, they knew a win was of utmost importance for them.

Considering the short nature of the series, another defeat would have meant a serious crisis for the Men in Blue. But Rohit Sharma and co. managed to address the problems well and ended up getting back to the winning ways with a clinical win against the Bangladeshi side. Commenting on the game, Rohit Sharma stuck to the same playing combinations after winning the toss.

He invited Bangladesh to bat first. The start was ideal for the Indian team as both Bangladeshi openers were sent back to the dugout cheaply. Liton Das scored a fighting 34 coming in at number three but eventually perished in his attempt to slog towards the end overs. With Vijay Shankar striking twice for India in the crucial moments of the game, the Bangladeshi innings seemed crashing poorly.

Sabbir Rahman kept the Bangladeshi side interested in the game with a crucial 30 to his name that came off 26 deliveries. But it was not enough to take the total over the 140 run mark. India successfully restricted Bangladesh to 139/8 in the stipulated 20 overs.

In the run chase, the story looked like a familiar sight of the recent times. Rohit perished early and it was the in-form Shikhar Dhawan anchoring the knock yet again. He scored a brilliant 55 off 43 deliveries with five boundaries and a couple of sixes to his name. Suresh Raina also played a handy knock of 28 while Rishabh Pant failed to get in to the double digits.

Manish Pandey, with his unbeaten 27 off 19 deliveries, ensured that the Indian side got over the line with 6 wickets in hand. India chased down the target in 18.4 overs to register their first win of the series.

Here is how the fans reacted to India’s first win in the series:
