India’s third lunar space mission Chandrayan-3 was successfully completed on Wednesday, August 23, as the Vikram Lander Module made the soft landing on the Moon's surface. The entire nation is celebrating the momentous achievement as India became the fourth nation in the world to land on the Moon after the United States, Soviet Union, and China. Furthermore, India became the first nation to make a successful landing on the South Pole of the celestial body.

Notably, Chandrayan-3 was launched on 14 July 2023 from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota. It is ISRO’s (Indian Space Research Organisation) second attempt after the failure of the Chandrayan-2 mission, which faced challenges while soft landing on the lunar surface in 2019.

The real Test of the mission began at the last leg of the landing, much like Chandrayan-2 which failed during the last 20 minutes before touching upon the moon. During the crucial phase, ISRO initiated Automatic Landing sequence (ALS) which allowed Vikram LM to use its on-board computers and logic to identify a favourable spot to make a soft landing on the lunar surface. The entire nation waited with bated breath for the historic moment and was sent into a frenzy upon its successful completion.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission's lander, Vikram Lander Module, is named after Vikram Sarabhai (1919-1971), who is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme. India’s mission has also garnered praise from Amazon founder Jeff Bezos and Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who were also rooting for the success of th nation's moon mission.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the ISRO scientists for the historic achievement, calling the success a sign of a developed India. He also hailed it as a win for entire humanity that will further help future moon missions of other countries.

Meanwhile, the entire Indian cricketing fraternity also expressed their elation on the proud moment for the country and congratulated ISRO for the success of the mission.

Here's how the cricketing fraternity reacted to Chandrayaan 3 success:
