Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got back to winning ways as they beat Mumbai Indians (MI) by six wickets. Notably, the two heavyweights of the IPL locked horns at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Saturday, May 6.
The move paid dividends as the opening duo of Cameron Green and Ishan Kishan failed to hit the ground running and were sent packing for six and seven runs, respectively. Skipper Rohit, who decided to take to the crease at no. 3, perished as he was dismissed for a three-ball duck. In doing so, he recorded the most number of ducks in the top-tier league with as many as 16 to his name.
However, 22-year-old Nehal Wadhera helped inject some momentum as he carved out a delicate knock and raised vital stands with Suryakumar Yadav and Tristan Stubbs. At first, Nehal combined with Suryakumar to stitch a 55-run partnership and later followed it with a 54-run stand with Stubbs to help Mumbai attain a decent total.
The southpaw registered his maiden fifty in the league and concluded with 64 runs off 51 balls which included eight fours and one six to his name before getting dismissed. Meanwhile, Matheesha Pathirana got three wickets whereas Deepak Chahar and Tushar Deshpande got two wickets apiece as MI wrapped up their innings with a paltry score of 139 runs.

In reply, Ruturaj Gaikwad handed a blazing start to the innings as he got a 16-ball 30. However, just when he was getting into his element, the batter was outfoxed by veteran spinner Piyush Chawla. Gaikwad’s innings included four fours and two maximums at an aggressive strike rate of 187.50.
CSK remained at a steady pace as they got 55 runs in the powerplay (1-6 overs) as Devon Conway and Ajinkya Rahane played delicately. Soon after the dismissals of Rahane (21 off 17) and Impact Player Ambati Rayudu (12 off 11 balls), Shivam Dube and Conway kept the scoreboard ticking.
However, Conway too headed back to the pavilion for a fine 42-ball 44 which featured four boundaries. Skipper MS Dhoni hit the match-winning runs to help clinch the two points against the arch rivals as they won by six wickets. In doing so, CSK registered their second win in the 'El Clasico' against MI in the ongoing edition of the league.
