Gujarat Titans (GT) and Delhi Capitals (DC) squared off in the 44th match of the IPL 2023 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, in Ahmedabad, on Tuesday, May 2. In a humdinger, DC defeated the hosts by five runs to register their third victory in the ongoing IPL.

Delhi skipper David Warner opted to bat first after winning the toss. However, the top order collapsed courtesy of Mohammed Shami's fiery spell. As a result, they only managed to score 130 runs in 20 overs. However, Aman Khan came to the rescue and notched up a brilliant half-century to help his side set a reasonable target.

GT pacer Mohammed Shami provided an early breakthrough for the Hardik Pandya-led side as he dismissed DC opener Phil Salt in the very first delivery of the match. The English batter tried to loft it for a boundary but David Miller intercepted and took a brilliant catch. As DC were trying to cope with the dismissal of Salt, they faced another blow as skipper Warner got run out for 2.

Shami was on fire as he inflicted three more dismissals in the form of Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, and Priyam Garg. At one stage, DC were reeling at 28/5 after Powerplay. Albeit, Axar Patel and Aman Khan tried to steady the ship but were unable to score freely. Thereafter, Mohit Sharma later dismissed Axar for 27 runs. Meanwhile, Aman Khan's maiden IPL half-century in the 18th over of the DC innings. He smashed 51 off 44 deliveries before being dismissed by the GT all-rounder, Rashid Khan.

During the chase, Impact Player Khaleel Ahmed provided a massive breakthrough for DC, as he dismissed keeper-batter, Wriddhiman Saha, in the final delivery of the first over. Soon after Shubman Gill, Vijay Shankar and David Miller fell cheaply and GT were reduced to 32/4 in the seventh over. However, the GT skipper Hardik Pandya (59*) and Rahul Tewatia (20 off 7) provided some hope for the home side but Ishant defended 12 runs in the penultimate over as DC restricted GT by 125/6 to register their third win in the ongoing IPL season.
