IPL 2024: CSK vs PBKS Match 49 Highlights: Unmissable video recap, turning points, match analysis, stats and more

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) met each other in the 49th match of IPL 2024 at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, known as the Chepauk Stadium on Wednesday. PBKS skipper Sam Curran won the toss and chose to bowl first against the Super Kings. CSK put up a score of 162 in the allotted 20 overs. PBKS beat CSK at their home by 7 wickets. 

Punjab Kings won the match by 7 wickets. Sadly, No one from PBKS scored a half-century, Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Roussouw scored 46 and 43 runs respectively and were dismissed.  162 is not a difficult target to chase in T20s anymore. We have seen the teams who bat first score more than 220 especially in this season of IPL. Therefore, It was a chasable target for PBKS as well.

1. Ruturaj Gaikwad played a captain's innings

The Chennai Super Kings' skipper has been in tremendous form this IPL season. He has a century and four fifties in his name with the best score of 108*. He scored 62 runs off 48 balls in the match against PBKS. It is safe to say that he has been the lone warrior for the Chennai Super Kings. Gaikward surpasses Virat Kohli in the Orange Cap race after his innings against PBKS. He is currently on top of the Most Runs in the IPL 2024 race. 

2. Jonny Bairstow's blazing innings

PBKS wicketkeeper batter has been performing really well in IPL 2024. In 10 matches, he has scored 296 runs with a strike rate of 165.56. Unfortunately, Bairstow could not complete his half-century against CSK and was dismissed by Shivam Dube who was bowling for the first time in this season of IPL. Shivam Dube sent Bairstow back to the pavilion on his second bowl itself. 

3. Fourth victory for Punjab Kings in IPL 2024

The Punjab Kings won their fourth game of the tournament with ease. They beat CSK for the fifth consecutive time in the IPL. Following their thrilling chase against KKR a few days prior, this was their second straight victory. On the other side, after yet another defeat at home, Chennai will start to sound the alarm. Chennai Super Kings remain on the fourth position of the points table whereas Punjab Kings move up to the 7th position after their victory over the Super Kings on Wednesday.
