Mumbai Indians  in Match 33 on Thursday, April 18 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. After being put in to bat first, Mumbai posted a huge score of 192/7 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of a brilliant knock from Suryakumar Yadav. Harshal Patel was the pick of the bowlers for Punjab with figures of 3/31 in four overs. In reply, Punjab came close to the target courtesy of heroic innings from Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma but were eventually bundled out for 183 in 19.1 overs. 

Jasprit Bumrah and Gerald Coetzee picked up three wickets each for Mumbai. Following their win, MI rose to the seventh spot on the points table with three wins from seven matches having six points to their name. On the other hand, Punjab slipped to ninth position with two wins from seven games having four points to their name.

1. Suryakumar Yadav scores second half-century of the season

The 33-year-old walked to the crease after the wicket of the opener Ishan Kishan (8 off 8) in the third over. Suryakumar made his intentions clear right from the word go as he took on the bowlers in the powerplay and got involved in a crucial 81-run partnership with Rohit Sharma for the second wicket. He went on to score 78 (53) with the help of seven fours and three sixes.

2. Jasprit Bumrah starts with double wickets in his first over

The right-arm seamer continued his good work in the powerplay as picked a couple of wickets in his first over itself. Bumrah first shattered the stumps of Rilee Rossouw and later got Sam Curran caught behind. He further returned in the 13th over to dismiss a well-set Shashank Singh (41 off 25) by outfoxing him with a slower ball. He finished with figures of 3/21 in four overs.

3. Ashutosh Sharma keeps Punjab’s chase alive

The 25-year-old walked to the crease with his team dealing with a precarious situation at 77/6 after 9.2 overs. Sharma got involved in a crucial stand with Shashank Singh (41 off 25) and later added 57 runs for the eighth wicket off 32 balls with Harpreet Brar (21 off 20). He eventually went on to score a brilliant 61 off 28 balls with the help of two fours and seven sixes but unfortunately got out in the 18th over.
