The Indian Premier League season 16 continued its riveting action as Chennai Super Kings hosted Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday, April 21, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai. CSK captain MS Dhoni called it right at the toss and elected to bowl first. Hyderabad were going well in their innings as they were 70/1 after nine overs.
However, Ravindra Jadeja put the brakes on SRH’s smooth-flowing innings, dismissing the well-set opener Abhishek Sharma for 34 off 26. Sharma was trying to pull a half-tracker but got it high on the bat, which went straight to Ajinkya Rahane, who was running in from long-on as SRH lost their second wicket on 71.
Jadeja further dismissed Rahul Tripathi in the 12th over as he top-edged a sweep shot straight to Akash Singh at short fine leg. Tripathi departed for 21 off 21 balls, leaving SRH at 84/3 after 11.2 overs. The southpaw further got Mayank Agarwal stumped in his fourth over as SRH lost half their side to be 95/5 after 13.5 overs.
The CSK all-rounder finished his four-over spell with figures of 3/22. It is Jadeja’s second three-wicket haul of the ongoing IPL season, as he earlier scalped 3/20 in CSK’s third fixture against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
The 34-year-old dismissed Ishan Kishan, Cameron Green and Tilak Varma and was awarded Player of the Match for his outstanding performance. Jadeja has picked nine wickets in IPL 2023 from six innings so far at an average of 15.77 and an economy of 6.76.
Chennai need 135 runs to win the match
Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings are ranked in the third spot in the points table with three wins from five matches. They defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore by eight runs in their last fixture at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Out of the two matches played on their home ground at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, CSK have won one game and lost one against Rajasthan Royals. The MS Dhoni-led side will be eager to get their fourth win under their belt by defeating SRH in the ongoing fixture.
SRH finished their innings on 134/7 in their allotted 20 overs, setting a target of 135 for CSK to win the match.
