In a remarkable turnaround from their lacklustre performance in the opening Test, the South African cricket team showcased their mettle in the second match of the series. Opting to bat first on a surprisingly green surface after winning the toss, the Proteas struggled to convert starts into substantial innings. Despite a gritty fifty from Ruan de Swardt in the lower order, they couldn't fully capitalize on their opportunities.

Debutant William O' Rourke impressed with the ball, spearheading the South African attack with skill and precision. Although the hosts initially appeared to be in a commanding position, a sudden collapse allowed the visitors to claw their way back into contention. Dane Piedt's five-wicket haul, complemented by Dane Paterson's incisive bowling, restricted the hosts' lead to a mere 31 runs.

South Africa's second innings saw an outstanding performance from David Bedingham, who notched his maiden Test century, supported ably by Dane Paterson in the lower middle order. However, their promising partnership was marred by another collapse, as the Proteas lost six wickets for just 33 runs, ultimately setting New Zealand a target of 267.

Despite early setbacks, New Zealand's chase was anchored by Kane Williamson, whose remarkable resilience led him to his third century of the series. Supported by William Young, who contributed a crucial fifty of his own, Williamson guided the Kiwis to a record-breaking victory at Seddon Park.

Devon Conway's failure to make an impact, coupled with Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra's inability to convert starts into substantial innings, briefly ignited hope for South Africa. However, Williamson's masterclass at the crease ensured that the hosts achieved the target with consummate ease, securing a memorable victory in the series.
