As the world celebrates ‘Mother’s Day’ on the second Sunday of the month of May every year, cricketers from across the globe took to their social media handle to pay tribute and express their gratitude towards their ‘super’ moms and wives.
The embodiment of strength, selflessness, compassion coupled with unconditional love, care and sacrifices is what makes one grateful for their mothers and wives. While women have stood like a giant pillar of support during the tough times and cheered massively while attaining success, players have reflected on the impact with heart touching tweets.
From legendary batter Sachin Tendulkar to Mithali Raj, cricketers flooded Twitter to pay their heartwarming tribute on the special occasion. Notably, former India skipper Virat Kohli shared a picture of his wife, Indian film actor Anushka Sharma, and his mother Saroj Kohli’s picture to extend his wishes.
On the other hand, India great Tendulkar posted a rather witty tweet while being grateful for his ‘Aai (mother in Marathi)’. Former India skipper Mithali Raj shared a picture with her mother, calling the latter her ‘safe place’.
Meanwhile, Faf du Plessis, who is currently plying his trade for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023, ‘appreciated’ all the mothers with his touching post. Likewise, cricketer-turned-broadcaster Robin Uthappa, who is currently featuring on JioCinema for the ongoing IPL season, thanked his wife on behalf of his kids by sharing a cute picture.
After the sad demise of Pakistan cricketer Umar Akmal’s mother in 2018, the wicketkeeper-batter shared an emotional tweet on the occasion and added that he along with his brothers - Kamran Akmal and Adnan Akmal - miss her dearly.
Decked up for the occasion, the Pandya brothers (Hardik and Krunal) also extended their warm wishes as the former tweeted a joint family picture of the duo with their mother, Nataša Stanković (Hardik's wife), and Pankhuri Sharma (Krunal's wife). Mumbai Indians’ (MI) explosive hitter Suryakumar Yadav, who is relishing a brilliant run in the ongoing season with the bat, thanked his mother for the ‘unconditional’ love.
