MI Cape Town climbed to the top of the points table after dispatching Joburg Super Kings in a comfortable victory. Faf du Plessis' men succumbed to a second successive defeat in the ongoing SA20 2023 and are looking lost at the moment after yet another failure with the bat in the first innings.

Chasing a modest target, MI Cape Town made a sedated start as both the opening batters Dewald Brevis and Ryan Rickelton took their time since there was no scoreboard pressure. Rickelton perished in the ninth over of the chase after a solid start to their innings. Brevis, who was knocked over for a two-ball duck in the previous outing, looked in fine touch and found the boundaries at regular intervals with five boundaries to his tally.

But the 19-year-old batting star could not complete his half-century after being dismissed for a well-made 42 that included three maximums and two boundaries. Rashid Khan's side treaded over the line quite easily with more than three overs remaining in the contest, however, missing out on a bonus point that could prove costly later in the tournament.

Rabada and Co. too hot to handle for the Super Kings

MI Cape Town's influential skipper Rashid Khan won the toss and decided to bowl first on a tricky surface at the Newlands. His decision to hand the new ball to the incoming Kagiso Rabada turned out to be a masterstroke as the Proteas speedster broke the deadlock for his side after dismissing Reeza Hendricks with an absolute cracker of a delivery.

It was Deja vu for Faf du Plessis' Joburg Super Kings as their top order failed to fire for a third successive game. While the skipper was sent packing by an absolute ripper from left-arm Chinaman Waqar Salamkheil, there were several questionable shot selections from the other batters.

With the Super Kings reeling at 54/5, it looked like the Men in Yellow would fail to get to the three-figure mark for a second game running, only for a few handy contributions from the tailenders to take their tally to 105 runs at the end of the 20 overs. Rabada, who was brought into the team for his first game of the tournament, finished with sizzling bowling figures of 2/12 in his spell. Only Sam Curran could not get wickets to his name with an expensive economy of 10.50 in the two overs that he bowled, also the most expensive spell in the match.

Here is how Twitter reacted to a comprehensive victory by MI Cape Town that propelled them to the top of the table:
