'Strongly condemn this heinous attack' - Pakistan cricketing fraternity reacts to Pakistan Legend and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s ‘assassination attempt’

Former Pakistan Prime Minister and 1992 World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan was gravely injured in the process of an attempt of assassination in Wazirabad, Pakistan. The unfortunate incident unfolded when the Imran, the PTI chairman, held the anti-government rally across Pakistan.

Members of the Pakistan cricketing fraternity immediately took heed of the situation and have condemned the attack. It is reported that as many as seven people, including the former cricketer, were injured in the firing at the rally.

The lone attacker had clear motive of assassinating the former Prime Minister under the pretext of ‘the PTI chairman misguiding the people of the country’. The Punjab police have confirmed in a statement that during the attack apart from the seven people injured, one person was killed.

The former cricketer was speaking to the crowd present in the rally while atop a container truck about his ongoing “long march” to Islamabad to protest the current administration under Shehbaz Sharif, when the shooter opened fire. What followed was the assailant getting apprehended after opening fire towards Mr. Khan.

Furthermore, it is reported that the ousted Prime Minister sustained three bullet injuries to his leg after the assailant opened fire at his rally on Thursday evening. Fortunately, Imran who was leading the anti-government protests in a long march towards Islamabad, is said to be out of danger.

The cricketing fraternity and players who have been mentored by Imran, were saddened by the unfortunate event, and reacted to the heinous crime. From Pakistan skipper Babar Azam to former teammates and friends Wasim Akram, took to Twitter to condemn the attack on the cricketing legend.
