Joburg Super Kings skipper, Faf du Plessis, carved out a blistering knock of 92 runs against Sunrisers Eastern Cape, in match 27 of the ongoing SA20 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
Opting to bat first, Faf and Co. got a major head start to the innings as duo openers, Reeza Hendricks and the skipper, stitched a vital 119-run partnership between them. However, soon after the dismissal of Hendricks, who scored 40 runs, the rest of the batting unit collapsed for single-digit scores.
Faf led from the front and registered 92 runs from 61 balls as he hammered four maximums and seven boundaries at a strike rate of 150.81. With his majestic knock, the South Africa stalwart steered his side to attain a respectable total of 160 runs for the loss of six wickets in their 20 overs of the contest. Meanwhile, Aiden Markram and Sisanda Magala bagged two wickets each during the first innings which included the latter getting the prized scalp of the Joburg skipper.
It is worth mentioning that Faf previously registered a century against Durban's Super Giants as he scored 113 runs and powered the Kings to 8-wicket win in that contest.
Sunrisers Eastern Cape on the cusp of cementing semi-final berth
In response to the total set by the home side, Sunrisers will need to lay a solid foundation, much like how the Kings built in the first innings. Furthermore, the side are also on the cusp of making a place in the semi-final of the event.
That said, they face stiff competition from the likes of the other teams below them. Temba Bavuma, who joined the side after his phenomenal outing against England in the recently concluded ODI series, will be hungry to get the vital runs for his side.
However, early breakthroughs could dent their chances of chasing down the total. It remains to be seen if Sunrisers get the required start and clinch the crucial four points in the run chase.
Here is how Netizens reacted to the knock by the Joburg skipper-
