Defending champions Gujarat Titans made a mockery of a KL Rahul-less Lucknow Super Giants' bowling line-up at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The home side, who were put into bat first by LSG's stand-in skipper Krunal Pandya, compiled their highest total in IPL history, thanks to Wriddhiman Saha and Shubman Gill's record-setting opening stand.
The diminutive opener, who found some form in the previous encounter against Rajasthan Royals, took a liking to Lucknow pacer Mohsin Khan inside the first six overs. Saha breached the 50-run mark in just 20 balls, the fastest by any Titans batter in the competition. While his opening partner took the LSG bowlers on in the powerplay, Gill was more measured with his approach initially.
However, the young Indian dasher also joined the party following Saha's dismissal after a fiery innings. Gill, whose innings is often synonymous with timing and precision, took the more powerful route against LSG, smashing them for seven maximums, the most by any GT batter in an IPL innings, and two boundaries during his trailblazing stay at the crease.

GT skipper Hardik Pandya, who played a breathtaking cameo in his previous outing, also came out all guns blazing, continuing his side's assault against the hapless opposition batters. Pandya, who lived a charmed life at the crease, had to depart after smashing a ball straight to his opposite number and brother Krunal Pandya in the 16th over.
While Gill was inching ever closer to a sensational IPL century, star South African finisher David Miller also chipped in with a brisk cameo. The innings came to a close as the home side finished with a mammoth total of 227 runs, their highest in IPL, with Gill remaining unbeaten after a glorious knock of 94 runs in just 51 deliveries.
