MI Emirates took on the Dubai Capitals in the Eliminator of the inaugural edition of the International league T20. The Kieron Pollard-led side won the toss and decided to bowl first on a tricky Sharjah surface that had something in it for the bowlers.
The Emirates were up and running from the start courtesy of Trent Boult. The New Zealand speedster troubled the opposition batters with his line and length and gave away only eight runs in his first three overs, bagging the wicket of Robin Uthappa.
George Munsey and Sikandar Raza steadied the ship but some tight bowling meant the pressure was continuously applied on the batters. Even with the help of late flurry from Rovman Powell, the Capitals could only reach a total of 151/5.
With a batting heavy line-up, the Emirates came out all guns blazing from the get-go. They lost the wicket of the in-form Mohammad Wasim but started to rebuild from there on. They lost Lorcan Tucker just after the powerplay and the Capitals looked for an opening to comeback.
The West Indies duo of Nicolas Pooran and Andre Fletcher took matters into their own hands and was smooth sailing there after. The duo made batting look easy and stitched an unbeaten partnership of 104 runs to power MI Emirates to the Qualifier 2. Both the batters scored their respective fifties at a rapid pace and Pooran was adjudged man of the match for his unbeaten knock of 66.
What's next for both the teams?
MI Emirates, after winning the Eliminator will now face the Gulf Giants, who lost Qualifier 1. The winner of Qualifier 2 will go on to face Desert Vipers in the final on Sunday.
Dubai Capitals will rue their batting performance but will take a lot of positives and hope for an outcome in the next edition of the International league T20.
