Twitter Reactions: Australia chase down their highest World Cup target to crush Bangladesh by eight wickets

Australia ended their league stage campaign in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 with an eight-wicket win over Bangladesh on Saturday, November 11 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune. After being put in to bat first, Bangladesh posted a good score of 306/8 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Australia chased down the highest target in their World Cup history in 44.4 overs.

The Pat Cummins-led side didn’t get off to the best of the starts in their chase as they lost the big wicket of Travis Head with just 12 runs on the board. After the early blow, David Warner (53 off 61) and Mitchell Marsh got involved in a 120-run stand to stabilize the innings.

Bangladesh made a comeback by dismissing Warner in the 23^rd over. However, Marsh continued his innings and went on to play a scintillating innings of 177* (132) smashing 17 fours and nine sixes. He was well supported by Steve Smith who scored 63* (64) and added 175 runs for the third wicket with Marsh.

Earlier in the innings, Bangladesh got off to a good start by their openers Tanzid Hasan (36 off 34) and Litton Das (36 off 45) as the duo added 76 runs for the first wicket off 68 balls. However, the duo failed to convert their starts and got dismissed leaving their side on 106/2 in 16.4 overs.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto (45 off 57) and Towhid Hridoy (74 off 79) further added 64 runs for the third wicket to help their side cross the 170-run mark. Contributions from Mahmudullah (32 off 28), Mushfiqur Rahim (21 off 24) and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (29 off 20) helped their side finish on 306/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Adam Zampa (2/32, 10 overs) and Sean Abott (2/61, 10 overs) picked up two wickets each for Australia.
