New Zealand sealed the five-match T20I series against Pakistan as they beat them by 45 runs in the third game on Wednesday, January 17 at University Oval, Dunedin. Pakistan skipper Shaheen Afridi’s decision to bowl first at the toss backfired big time as the Kiwis went on to post a massive score of 224/7 in their allotted 20 overs riding on a scintillating century by Finn Allen (137 off 62).

In reply, Pakistan could only manage to reach 179/7 in 20 overs with Babar Azam once again top-scoring with 58 (37). Their chase didn’t get off to a good start as opener Saim Ayyub (10 off 13) failed to get his innings going and fell prey to Tim Southee (2/29) in the fourth over.

His partner Mohammad Rizwan (24 off 20) got a start but failed to keep up with the massive required run rate and got dismissed against Mitchell Santner in the eighth over leaving his side on 62/2. Fakhar Zaman tried to up the ante with his brisk innings but couldn’t take his score beyond 19 (10) with Lockie Ferguson accounting for him in the 11th over. With wickets falling from the other end, Babar Azam held the other one and registered his third consecutive fifty of the series but couldn't take his team over the line.

Finn Allen levelled the record for most sixes in a T20I innings

Earlier in the day, New Zealand lost their first wicket in the fourth over with 28 runs on the board as opener Devon Conway (7 off 8) once again departed cheaply. However, Finn Allen decided to compensate for his partner’s low score by slamming a 48-ball hundred and registered the third-fastest hundred by a New Zealand batter in the format.

The 24-year-old went berserk and showed no mercy to the Pakistan bowling attack clobbering them for five fours and 16 massive sixes. Notably, he levelled Hazratullah Zazai’s record for most sixes in a T20I innings achieved against Ireland in Dehradun on 23rd February 2019. Courtesy of his knock, New Zealand finished the innings with their fifth-highest total in T20Is of 224/7.
