Ireland extinguished the embarrassment of the ODI series whitewash against Pakistan after defeating the hosts in the T20I series opener at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Laura Delany's visitors chased down Pakistan's below par-total of 135 runs to draw first blood in the three-match T20I series. Gaby Lewis guided the visitors to a memorable victory with a fluent unbeaten half-century for her side.

The hosts, led by Bismah Maroof, won the toss and opted to bat first in the match. However, they were met with a turbulent start after losing wicketkeeper-batter Muneeba Ali on just the third delivery of the match for a duck. The Pakistani skipper was next to follow in the fifth over after scoring 17 off 15 deliveries.

Pakistan were in a spot of bother after being restricted to 56-4. But the veteran hard-hitting batter Nida Dar wrestled back the momentum for the home side with a brisk half-century. Her 57-run stand with Aliya Riaz helped Pakistan to a competitive total of 135 runs in their 20 overs. Orla Prendergast was the pick of the Irish bowlers, returning with glittering bowling figures of 3/10 in her four overs.

Chasing a modest total, Ireland were pegged initially by the early dismissal of Amy Hunter in the second over of the chase. Orla Prendergast, who starred with the ball earlier in the match, consolidated for the visitors along with Gaby Lewis. Although Prendergast was dismissed after a well-compiled innings post the powerplay, Lewis kept her cool taking her side to a commanding position in the match.

The opening batter compiled an unbeaten 69 off 54 deliveries to guide the Irish to a historic win with six wickets in the bag and eight deliveries to spare in the match.
