The series decider between India and Australia at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad lived up to the hype as both sides engaged in an enthralling game of cricket. And it was the hosts who came up trumps to claim a memorable series victory against a spirited Australian unit. Hardik Pandya played an invaluable cameo at the death to hand India the victory before Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav's match-defining partnership.
The Indian chase suffered an early setback as opener KL Rahul perished cheaply in the first over of the second innings. But the body blow came in the fourth over as the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma succumbed to a short ball in an attempt to up the ante.
Australia's total looked like a daunting prospect as the pitch started to play tricks on the batters with indifferent bounce and turn-on offer for the bowlers. The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli played a few delightful shots to calm things in the middle for the hosts before Suryakumar Yadav took matters into his own hands.
The innovative stroke maker compiled an explosive half-century in a 104-run stand for the third wicket with Kohli. Suryakumar's dazzling knock of 69 runs in just 36 deliveries gave India the upper hand in the chase, with Kohli dropping anchor with his 33rd T20I half-century. But the Aussie bowlers wrestled momentum after Suryakumar's wicket with a couple of quiet overs.
With the match heading towards another tense finale, the onus was on the Indian batters to take the side home in the series decider on a tricky surface. And like he has done numerous times for India, the chase master, Kohli, brought India to the cusp of victory with his 63, before perishing in the final over. But Hardik Pandya displayed nerves of steel and struck the winning runs for the Men in Blue in a nail-biting finale.
Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal pulled things back for India after Green's assault
Earlier in the match, Rohit Sharma won the toss and opted to bowl first on a seemingly flat track in Hyderabad. The visitors made a remarkable start to their innings as the make-shift opener Cameron Green had the Indian bowlers on toast with his blazing innings. The powerful all-rounder compiled a blistering half-century in just 19 deliveries, the fastest by any batter against Indians in T20Is.
But the Indian bowlers pulled things back to great extent after halting the record-breaking innings from Green as the Aussie middle order batters struggled for timing in the middle overs. With India constantly chipping away at the wickets, the visitors, who once threatened to breach the 200-run mark, were sweating to even reach 170 runs.
India were on top of the proceedings, only for Tim David to put his hand up in the death overs along with Daniel Sams. The duo took full advantage of some wayward bowling by the Indian bowlers as India's death bowling woes were prolonged. Tim David, playing just his third T20I for the Men in Yellow, plummeted a 25-ball half-century to take Australia to a handsome total of 186 runs in their 20 overs.
Axar Patel once again flourished in his powerplay bowling role and ended with impressive figures of 3/33. His spin bowling partner Yuzvendra Chahal also contributed with a wicket, returning with miserly figures of 1/22 in his four overs, While Jasprit Bumrah and Bhuvneshwar Kumar hemorrhaged runs at an alarming rate.
Here is how Twitter reacted to another high scoring thriller with plenty of twists and turns.

Very good from India. Lots of batting intent in that India vs Australia contest. Great to watch. . Suryakumar Yadav (SKY) has to be one the most phenomenally versatile batsmen in this format.

Great win for India. To comeback from 1-0 down against Australia to win the T20 series 2-1 just before the @T20WorldCup is a great sign.
