Twitter Reactions: India thump Bangladesh in Chattogram to draw first blood in Test series

India completed a resounding Test victory in the series opener against Bangladesh after defeating the hosts by 188 runs in Chattogram. It was only a matter of time before India got over the line, and it took them just 50 minutes to bundle out the home side on the final day.

Bangladesh needed a herculean effort from their last recognized batting pair of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz to avoid a loss on the fifth and final day of the series opener. The pair had kept the visitors at bay in the third session on day three, but Mehidy Hasan fell to Mohammed Siraj in the third over of the fifth day, denting his side's hopes of an unlikely draw.

However, Bangladeshi skipper Shakib Al Hasan wasn't perturbed by Mehidy's dismissal and continued his assault on the Indian bowlers. He dispatched some lusty blows before Indian skipper KL Rahul decided to bring his trump card, Kuldeep Yadav, into the attack. The left-arm spinner struck in his first over of the day, disturbing Shakib's middle stump after he went for an expansive slog sweep.

The Bangladeshi skipper's departure after an entertaining knock of 84 runs brought India to the brink of victory as Kuldeep removed Ebadot Hossain in his very next over to grab his eighth wicket in the match. However, it was his spin bowling partner from the other end, Axar Patel, who ended the Bangladeshi resistance, handing the Indians a massive victory by 188 runs in the first Test of the series at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

Axar was the star of the show for the visitors in the fourth innings, returning with a fantastic four-for. But the damage was done by the Indian batters in the second innings when Shubman Gill registered his maiden ton in the longest format of the game. Cheteshwar Pujara also ended his century drought after playing an uncharacteristically brisk innings.

Kuldeep Yadav returned with his best figures in the match and was supported well by Axar Patel in the fourth innings. Zakir Hasan's century on debut was the only positive for an injury-plagued home side, who failed to test the Indian batters on a tricky surface.
