India beat Australia by 99 runs (DLS method) in the second ODI of the three-match series on Sunday, September 24 at Holkar Cricket Stadium, Indore. Australia were bundled out for 217 in reply to India's mammoth total of 399/8. Courtesy of their win, India clinched the series by 2-0 with one game remaining in the series.

Earlier in the day, India were put in to bat first by the Australian captain Steve Smith. The decision was vindicated by Josh Hazlewood who got rid of Ruturaj Gaikwad (8 off 12) to give India their first blow with 16 runs on the board. After the early blow, Shreyas Iyer joined Shubman Gill at the crease and the duo stabilized the innings with their massive partnership. Gill (104 off 97) and Iyer (105 off 90) added 200 runs for the second wicket off 173 balls to take India’s score past 200.

Following their dismissals, captain KL Rahul came to bat in fourth gear as he began dealing in boundaries right from the word go. He even launched Cameron Green out of the stadium clobbering a 94-metre six. Suryakumar Yadav scored his second consecutive fifty of the series playing a breathtaking innings of 72* (37) to with the help of six fours and six sixes in. Ishan Kishan (31 off 18) and Ravindra Jadeja (13* off 9) also made handy contributions to propel their team’s total to 399/5.

Ashwin and Jadeja picked 3 wickets each

In reply, Australia didn’t get off to a good start as Prasidh Krishna gave a double blow in the second over of the innings by dismissing Matthew Short (9 off 8) and Steve Smith (0 off 1) off consecutive balls. However, David Warner (53 off 39) and Marnus Labuschagne (27 off 31) did the repair job with their 80-run stand off 68 balls.

Following that, there was no recovery from Australia as they succumbed to the huge scoreboard pressure and were bundled out for 217 in 28.3 overs. Ravichandran Ashwin (3/41, 7 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/42 in 5.2 overs) picked three wickets each for India.
