Twitter Reactions: Ireland Women create history; stun Pakistan to clinch T20I series 2-1

Ireland women stunned the Pakistan women in the third T20I as they thoroughly dominated the latter, winning the three-match T20I series 2-1. The Irish side defeated the Women in Green by 34 runs in the final T20I as the latter failed to chase a competitive target of 168 in their stipulated 20 overs. The series victory marks a historic achievement for Ireland women's team as it is the first time they have won a series away from home.

The Irish women were making headlines since the very first T20I match after snatching victory from the ‘favourites’ of the match. Playing all three fixtures at the Gaddafi Stadium, Pakistan were unable to replicate their ODI success against the same side in the shortest format.

In the first T20I, Pakistan put up an underwhelming total on the board of 135 runs and it was chased down with ease by the Irish batters. The latter chased it down in 18.4 overs handing Pakistan their first loss in the T20I series.

However, Nida Dar’s all-round performance in the second T20I helped the side stay in contention of the series. Pakistan beat Ireland by six wickets in a low-scoring rain-hit match (2nd T20I) to level the contest.

As the series outcome came down to the final match, Pakistan were still being deemed favourites to clinch the series. However, Ireland who batted first had other ideas, and dented the rival side’s chances of having any advantage. With 167 on the board, the Irish side felt comfortable defending the total with their strong bowling unit.

The hopes were pinned on Javeria Khan and Nida Dar to perform when it mattered most and to some extent, the duo gave its best. However, with wickets falling swiftly at the other end, the pressure mounted on the Pakistan batters as they eventually succumbed to it thereby handing Ireland a historic series win away from home.
