The exhilarating action continued in the Pakistan Super League 2023 as Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings got head-to-head against each other on March 12 at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.
Kings’ captain Imad Wasim won the toss and elected to bat first but they lost their opener Haider Ali in the first over itself. Following his dismissal, Tayyab Tahir added 70 runs for the second wicket with Muhammad Akhlaq. Akhlaq looked in fine touch and scored a brilliant 51 off 36 with the help of five fours and two sixes.
However, their partnership came to an end as Tahir was dismissed for 40 off 23 balls with Hussain Talat claimed his first wicket. Captain Imad Wasim walked in at number five and got involved in a 52-run stand with Ben Cutting. Wasim was dismissed by Zaman Khan for a well-made 45 off 31 balls while cutting provided the finishing touches his 33 off 14. James Fuller also played a brilliant cameo of 10 off five balls as Kings posted 196/7 in their allotted 20 overs.
Hussain Talat was the pick of the bowlers for Qalandars, picking 2/24 in three overs while Zaman Khan and Haris Rauf picked two wickets each.
Qalandars bundled out for 110
In reply, Qalandars innings got off to a miserable start as they lost their star openers Fakhar Zaman and Abdullah Shafique inside the first four overs. Qalandars never recovered their innings and fell like ninepins as they were bundled out for just 110 in 18.5 overs, with Hussain Talat top scoring with 25.
As a result, Kings registered a win by a massive margin of 86 runs. It was just their third win of PSL 2023 with two of them coming against the defending champions Qalandars. Muhammad Akhlaq was awarded Player of the Match for his knock of 51 off 36 balls.
