It was another shocking bowling display by the Mumbai Indians when they squared off against Punjab Kings at the PCA Stadium in Mohali. The home side put on a daunting total on the board thanks to Liam Livingstone and Jitesh Sharma's swashbuckling unbeaten partnership.
Punjab Kings did not make the greatest start to the match after explosive opener Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed in the second over of the match with just nine runs to his name. However, veteran Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan ensured a solid powerplay for his side with a brisk partnership with Matthew Short.
The Punjab skipper, who was looking in great touch, was done all ends up by his former Indian team-mate Piyush Chawla after a fiery innings at the top of the order. Mumbai Indians wrestled back the momentum after Dhawan's wicket as Short struggled to get going after the field restrictions. But Akash Madhwal's 11th over, which leaked 16 runs, gave the much-needed impetus to Punjab's innings.
Jofra Archer returns with worst-ever IPL figures after Livingstone and Jitesh's carnage
But it was Liam Livingstone's breathtaking partnership with Jitesh Sharma, which blew away the Mumbai Indians in the middle overs. The duo put on a masterclass in power-hitting, smashing 119 runs in just 53 deliveries. While Jitesh remained unbeaten on 49 runs off just 27 deliveries, the star English all-rounder hammered 82 runs in 42 deliveries to take Punjab to a mammoth total of 214 runs in their 20 overs.
The Mumbai bowlers were absolutely clueless against Jitesh and Livingstone, none more so than star English pacer Jofra Archer, who returned with shocking figures of 0/56 in his four overs, his most expensive in IPL history. His final over, which included three sixes from his compatriot Livingstone, yielded 27 runs as the Mumbai Indians conceded 200 runs with the ball for the fourth time this season.
