Sunrisers Eastern Cape got the better of MI Cape Town by two wickets in Match 12 of the SA20 2023 at the Newlands, Cape Town on Wednesday, January 18. By the virtue of this win, the Sunrisers have succeeded in doing the double over the MI Cape Town who they had defeated by four wickets in the reverse fixture.

Just like their previous meeting, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape yet again showcased exceptional performances in all departments of the game. And they were rewarded for their efforts in the end to add some more vital points to their tally and make advancements in the points table.

Sunrisers skipper Aiden Markram won the toss and elected to bowl first. Even though it seemed to be a good decision after getting the key wicket of Dewald Brevis early, the duo of Ryan Rickelton and Grant Roelofsen took matters into their hands with a 102-run stand for the second wicket. Rickelton scored 46 runs off 36 deliveries while Roelofsen was the lone half-centurion scoring a 36-ball 56.

However, once the duo was dismissed, MI Cape Town lost their momentum and were restricted to 171/6 from their 20 overs. Roelof van der Merwe and Ottniel Baartman (both 2/21) were the picks of the bowlers.

Sunrisers were 101/6 at one stage before Jansen blitz took them home

In reply, the Sunrisers were tottering in their competitive run chase losing wickets at regular intervals. At one point in time, it appeared as if the MI Cape Town would succeed in registering a famous win, but it was not to be as Marco Jansen had other ideas.

He single-handedly anchored the Eastern Cape chase scoring a counter-attacking half-century. MI Cape Town heaved a sigh of relief after getting his prized wicket for 27-ball 66, but it was too late by then and the damage was done as the Sunrisers successfully got over the line with three balls to spare.

Kagiso Rabada looked lethal with figures of 3/34, but his exceptional performance with the ball in hand went in vain on the given day.

Here’s how Twitter reacted to Sunrisers Eastern Cape Town’s win
