Game 5 of the ongoing SA20 2024 featured a clash between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Durban's Super Giants. Both sides faced off at St. George's Park in Gqeberha on Saturday, January 13.

The clash began with Durban's Super Giants batting first after winning the toss. The visitors swiftly gained momentum with Quinton de Kock (23 off 16 balls) and Matthew Breetzke (43 off 29 balls). However, the real onslaught began when Jon Jon Smuts, who was traded from Sunrisers Eastern Cape to DSG in the off-season, and Nicholas Pooran took centre stage.

Smuts smashed 75 off 38 balls with four fours and seven sixes, while Pooran showcased his class with a breathtaking 60 not out off 31 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Their performances powered DSG to 225/3. For Eastern Cape, Daniel Worrall was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets to his name.

The Sunrisers mounted a spirited run chase that kept the St. George's Park and the Orange Army entertained until the final over, but the target ultimately proved too much. Tom Abell scored 65 off 36 balls, and Tristan Stubbs added 55 off 26 balls, both striking half-centuries that pushed the Sunrisers to 190/9. DSG closed out their second consecutive victory of the SA20 2024 by 35 runs. For DSG, Richard Gleeson, Dwaine Pretorius, and Smuts all took two wickets each. Smuts was named Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
