The engaging action continued in the Pakistan Super League season 8, as Multan Sultans and Islamabad United locked horns with each other in Match 7, on February 19. The Islamabad captain, Shadab Khan, won the toss and invited Multan Sultans to bat first. The decision seemed to be working in Islamabad’s favour as they picked the wicket of Shan Masood in the first over itself.
However, Multan’s captain Mohammad Rizwan got together with Rilee Rossouw and added 91 runs for the second wicket in 65 balls. Seeing the partnership getting dangerous, Shadab Khan and Tom Curran removed both the set batters in consecutive overs to bring their team back into the game.
After two quick wickets, David Miller and Kieron Pollard stabilized Multan’s innings with a 78-run stand in 40 balls. Miller went on to score a blistering 52 off 25 balls, clobbering three fours and four sixes in his innings, while Pollard remained unbeaten on 32 off 21 balls. Courtesy of their efforts, Multan put up a massive score of 190/4 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, Islamabad United lost the wicket of Paul Stirling in the second over itself who fell prey to Mohammad Ilyas. They further lost the other opener Hassan Nawaz on the score of 32.
After the two early wickets, Rassie van der Dussen and Colin Munro kept their team in the chase adding 56 runs for the third wicket. The partnership was broken by Usama Mir who dismissed Munro for 31 off 23 balls. After Munro’s dismissal, van der Dussen failed to find partners to build a partnership.
Abbas Afridi shined with the ball for Multan Sultans
He finally perished after scoring 49 off 32 balls smashing five fours and one six in his innings. Following his dismissal, no other batter could make a vital contribution to take Islamabad closer to Multan’s total. As a result, they were bundled out for 138 in 17.5 overs as Multan won the match by 52 runs. Abbas Afridi was the pick of the bowlers for Multan Sultans, who picked up 4/22 in his three overs. Mohammad Ilyas, Usama Mir and Ihsanullah also picked up two wickets each.
