Netherlands registered their second win in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 as they beat Bangladesh by 87 runs on Saturday, October 28 at Eden Gardens, Kolkata. After opting to bat first, the Scott Edwards-led side were bundled out for 229 in their allotted 50 overs. In reply, Bangladesh’s chase never got going as they lost half their side with just 69 runs on the board.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz showed some fight with his innings of 35 (40), however, he fell prey to Bas de Leede in the 17th over leaving his side in all sorts of trouble. Bangladesh were eventually bundled out for 142 in 42.2 overs handing an 87-run win to the Netherlands. Paul van Meekeren was the pick of the bowlers for the Dutch as he scalped 4/23 in 7.2 overs while Bas de Leede (2/25, 7 overs) also picked up two wickets.

Earlier in the day, Netherlands captain Scott Edwards won the toss and elected to bat first. They didn’t get off to a good start as they lost their openers Vikramjit Singh (3 off 9) and Max O’Dowd (0 off 3) with just four runs on the board after 2.2 overs. Wesley Barresi walked in number three and played a brilliant knock of 41 (41) to help his side cross the 50-run mark.
