New Zealand women scripted history as they took on South Africa women in the summit clash of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. Both sides locked horns at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday, October 20. The clash began with New Zealand women coming in to bat first after losing the toss.
The side opened their innings with Suzie Bates and Georgia Plimmer scoring 32 and nine runs respectively. Amelia Kerr put in a good showing, scoring 43 runs in 38 deliveries. Skipper Sophie Devine failed to go big, scoring six runs in 10 deliveries.
Brooke Halliday added 38 runs in 28 deliveries, with Maddy Green and Isabella Gaze scoring 12 and three runs, respectively. New Zealand women posted a total of 158 runs in the first innings of the game, losing five wickets in the process.
Nonkululeko Mlaba was the highest wicket taker for South Africa women, with two wickets to her name. Ayabonga Khaka, Chloe Tryon, and Nadine de Klerk took one wicket each as well.
New Zealand women successfully defend title following exceptional bowling
Laura Wolvaardt and Tazmin Brits opened the innings for South Africa women and scored 33 and 17 runs, respectively. Anneke Bosch and Marizanne Kapp added nine and eight runs, respectively. Nadine de Klerk added six runs on the board. Chloe Tryon scored 14 runs as well.
New Zealand women put in an excellent performance with the ball and limited South Africa. Sune Luus and Annerie Dercksen scored eight and 10 runs, respectively, as South Africa women scored 126 runs and lost the game by 32 runs.
As for New Zealand women, Rosemary Mair and Amelia Kerr were the highest wicket takers for their side, with three wickets to their names. Eden Carson, Fran Jonas, and Brooke Halliday took one wicket each as well.
