Ireland won the third and final T20I against Bangladesh by seven wickets at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Friday, March 31 as the Irish side denied the hosts a series sweep, losing the three-match series 2-1.
Bangladesh won the toss and decided to put up a total in their final outing. However, Paul Stirling and Co. decided to give the home side a run for their money with their clinical bowling performance. The bowling unit operated in tandem to hand the blows early on in the contest which came to haunt the Bangla Tigers.
Bangladesh were reduced to 41/5 and needed someone to step up and get them to a respectable total. In came Shamim Hossain and took the onus of getting the vital runs on the board for the side.
Notably, Mark Adair returned a three-wicket haul, Matthew Humphreys got two to his name whereas the rest of the unit got one wicket each to wrap up the contest.
Captain Stirling leads the way
While the visitors already seemed to have stamped their authority, skipper Paul Stirling further helped extend their domination during the chase. Despite the early fall of Ross Adair for seven runs in the third over, Stirling continued to play his natural game and got the boundaries with ease.
Clobbering four maximums and 10 boundaries, the skipper set a solid foundation and led the way to a potential win. However, debutant Rishad Hossain got the big fish as Stirling was sent back to the dugout for 77 runs off 41 balls.
Rishad, Taskin Ahmed, and Shoriful Islam got one wicket apiece in the second innings. Harry Tector (14 runs) and Curtis Campher (16 runs), who came in the middle-order, steered the side to clinch the third T20I and avoid a clean sweep.
