The breathtaking action continued in the Indian Premier League 2023 on Monday, April 3 as Chennai Super Kings and Lucknow Super Giants locked horns in Match 6 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
It was Chennai’s first home game of the season and the atmosphere at the stadium was electrifying. Lucknow captain KL Rahul won the toss and invited the home team to bat first. CSK openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway walked out to the middle to give a fiery start to their team.
Gaikwad continued his form from the first game and played sumptuous shots all around the ground while Conway also joined him as the duo put on a magnificent exhibition of strokeplay for the Chennai crowd. They added 110 runs for the first wicket in 55 balls. Gaikwad went on to score 57 off 31 balls smashing three fours and four sixes in his innings while Conway scored 47 off 29 with the help of five fours and two sixes.
After a solid start, cameos from Shivam Dube (27 off 16), Ambati Rayudu (27* off 14) and MS Dhoni (12 off 3) took Chennai to a massive total of 217/7 in the first innings. Ravi Bishnoi was the pick of the bowlers for Lucknow who picked up 3/28 in four overs while Mark Wood also picked up 3/49 in four overs.

In reply, Lucknow got off to a terrific start as openers Rahul and Kyle Mayers added 79 runs off just 33 balls for the first wicket. Mayers was seen at his destructive best as he scored 53 off just 22 balls. He was finally dismissed by Moeen Ali who brought CSK back into the game with his four-wicket haul.
Nicholas Pooran tried his best to keep his side in the game with his knock of 32 off 18 balls, however, he was dismissed by Tushar Deshpande leaving his side on 156/6 with 62 more needed from 24 balls. Krishnappa Gowtham and Mark Wood tried their best but it was too much left to be done in the final four overs. As a result CSK won the match by 12 runs with Moeen Ali being the pick of the bowlers with his spell of 4/26 in four overs.
