Twitter Reactions: Sri Lanka crush Bangladesh in second Test to complete series whitewash

The final day of the second Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka saw the visitors put in a brilliant performance and clinch the two-game series as well. The final day of the clash began with Bangladesh aiming to chase down a mammoth target of 511 runs in the second innings, in hopes of levelling the series. 

On Day 4, Bangladesh got off to a subpar start to the run chase; openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan were sent packing for scores of 24 and 19 runs, respectively. Furthermore, skippers Najmul Hossain Shanto and Mominul Haque added 20 and 50 runs, respectively. The side’s resilient showings in the middle order revived some hopes of a successful run chase; however, Sri Lanka’s bowling attack proved to be too lethal for the hosts. 

Veteran Shakib Al Hasan scored 36 off 53, with Litton Das adding 38 runs on the board. Day 4 of the clash ended with the hosts on a score of 268 runs, having lost seven wickets in the process. As Day 5 rolled around, Mehidy Hasan Miraz continued his brilliant performance and stayed unbeaten on the strike for a score of 81 runs in 110 deliveries. However, the star player could not find a suitable batting partner to propel the hosts to a win. 

Eventually, Bangladesh were bundled out for a score of 318 runs as Sri Lanka won the game by 192 runs and clinched the series by a  0-2 margin. As for the visitors, Lahiru Kumara was the highest wicket-taker in the second innings, with four wickets to his name. Kamindu Mendis took three wickets, with Prabath Jayasuriya taking two and Vishwa Fernando striking once. 

Consequently, Sri Lanka have climbed up in the latest World Test Championship (WTC) rankings and surpassed Pakistan to claim the fourth spot. As the second Test concludes the multi-format series between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, and both sides will now shift their focus onto their respective upcoming assignments.
