Defending champions India Legends have started their campaign in this year’s Road Safety World Series 2022 with a victory against the South Africa Legends. Stuart Binny played a breathtaking knock while Yusuf Pathan and Rahul Sharma contributed a major part to the win as South Africa legends did not have much to cherish about.

Earlier in the game, India Legends opted to bowl first after winning the toss and openers Naman Ojha and Sachin Tendulkar provided a good start with a 46-run partnership for the first wicket. Ojha hit four fours in his 21-run knock while Tendulkar perished for 16. Suresh Raina and Stuart Binny joined hands together after that and played some destructive shots to get the innings going. Raina’s 22-ball 33 included four fours and a six while Yuvraj Singh could not make much of a difference.

Stuart Binny, Yusuf Pathan power the total above 200

Binny however, looked in great touch with the bat and he kept clearing the ropes at ease while he got good support from Yusuf Pathan. The powerful partnership ensured that the India Legends crossed the 200-run total and Binny remained unbeaten on 82 off 42 balls with six sixes and five fours. Pathan provided late fireworks by hitting four sixes and he remained unbeaten on 35 off 15 balls to get the total up to 217 for 4.

In reply, the South Africa Legends started off tentatively, as Morne Van Wyk and Andrew Puttick could not find the boundaries consistently. Both batters got dismissed in the 20s, while Alviro Peterson and Jacques Rudolph were soon removed by the spin duo of Rahul Sharma and Pragyan Ojha.

Skipper Jhonty Rhodes was the only batter who showed resistance while the rest of the batters were dismissed cheaply and did not put up any fight against the India Legends bowling attack. In the end, South Africa Legends finished with 156 for 9 in their 20 overs, with Rhodes playing a single-handed cameo of unbeaten 38 off 27 balls. Rahul Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 17 while Munaf Patel and Ojha picked up two wickets each.
