Australia’s batting superstar Travis Head was sold for INR 6.80 Crore to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) during the IPL 2024 mini-auction on Tuesday, December 19 at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. Ahead of the auction, Head was one of the most talked about overseas players owing to his recent form. Notably, the southpaw scored sensational hundreds in the World Test Championship 2023 final and ODI World Cup 2023 final against India helping his side lift both titles.

The 29-year-old started at a base price of INR 2 Crore and SRH immediately showed interest in the batter. However, they faced tough competition from the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) who were also interested in acquiring him which led to a bidding war between the two franchises.

He has further scored 1,681 runs across formats this year three hundreds and nine fifties. Head will bring with him much-needed firepower needed by SRH in their batting after Harry Brook failed to leave his mark in the previous season.

After finishing on the last stage on the points table with just four wins from 14 matches in the 2023 season, SRH will look to turn their fortunes around in the upcoming edition and will aim for a top-four finish.
