India have taken a lead of 1-0 in the three match T20I series after winning the second T20I comfortably by 65 runs. Suryakumar's scintillating century alongside Deepak Hooda's impressive bowling spell proved to the game changing moments for India.

Earlier in the game, New Zealand opted to bowl first after winning the toss and Rishabh Pant was sent up the order to open alongside Ishan Kishan. Kishan hit a few boundaries upfront while Pant was struggling to find his best touch. After a 13-ball six, Pant perished while Kishan played well for his 31-ball 36. Suryakumar Yadav who came in at three looked positive and used his excellent form to get the scoring-rate up.

Shreyas Iyer had a short stay of 9-ball 13 after being dismissed through a hit wicket and it was the entirety's Suryakumar’s brilliance post that. He went past the 50-run mark comfortably and kept finding the boundaries constantly. In fact, the productive 19th over ensured that Suryakumar reached the three-figure mark as well and India finished with 191 for 6 despite Tim Southee’s hattrick in the 20th over.

India's disciplined bowling attack does the trick

In reply, New Zealand lost the early wicket of Finn Allen, while Devon Conway and Kane Williamson stitched a handy partnership of 56 for the second wicket. Washington Sundar picked up Conway in the ninth over for a 22-ball 25 while an excellent delivery from Yuzvendra Chahal undid Glenn Phillips. Williamson was rotating the strike around while the middle-order could not contribute much.

The required run rate went up almost to the point it looked like the game was done and dusted for the Kiwis until Williamson played some shots and got to his fifty. However, he was dismissed for a 52-ball 61 and New Zealand were all out for 126 in the end. Deepak Hooda's four-wicket haul proved to be a surprise package as he cleaned up the tail quickly to finish with 4 for 10 in his 2.5 overs.
